How to get to Palmerston North

Palmerston North can be reached by road, rail or air.

AIR: There are some direct international flights from Australia to Palmerston North, although most international visitors arrive via Auckland. Regularly scheduled flights from Auckland to PN take about 1 hour. Check the airlines (Qantas, Air New Zealand) or your travel agent for timetable and bookings.

RAIL: The rail trip from Auckland to Palmerston North takes a full day, and is quite scenic if you have the time. From Wellington the trip is just over 2 hours. Check Tranz Scenic or your travel agent for timetable and bookings.

ROAD: If travelling by car, Palmerston North is about 8 hours from Auckland, and 2 hours from Wellington. Rental cars are available from airports. The two main coach companies are InterCity and Newmans.
