Hi! I'm Donald Bailey.

My wife, Robyn, and I live in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I work at Massey University where I am an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology. My teaching is in the areas of electronics, signal processing and image processing.

I am the group leader of the Image and Signal Processing Research Group. My research interests include most aspects of image analysis, but in particular the algorithm development process, and training. I have developed the Vision Image Processing System package which has been used in a wide range of image analysis applications. Current and recent projects include:

  • Image processing using FPGAs
  • Real time produce grading using machine vision
  • Super-resolution, and sub pixel measurement technques
  • Camera calibration
  • Coastal monitoring using automated video analysis

I am a keen Trax player, being the World Champion from 1990 to 1994. I regained the world title again in 1996. Administrative positions and achievements regarding Trax include:

I enjoy cycling (although most of the cycling I do now is commuting between home and work), swimming, walking, and reading. I regularly attend St Alban's Presbyterian church.
